The Rules:

The rules are simple. Sign up anytime between now and midnight, October 2 using the format listed below, and write a fic with a minimum length of 1,000 words that is an AU of an 80's movie or TV show. There is only one claim per movie/TV show. If you want to claim a second movie or TV show, you need to finish the fic for your first claim and then claim another. The movie or TV show you pick has to have been released/been on the air between 1980 and 1989.

If you're unsure of release dates, you can check here, or you can check here for movies and here for TV shows. The main characters have to be bandom but any and all crossovers are fine.

Example: A Desperately Seeking Susan AU featuring Cassadee as Roberta & Miley Cyrus as Susan - totally fine since Roberta is the main focus of the movie/fic. An Escape from NY AU featuring Adam Lambert as Snake? While ridiculous in a really awesome way would not fit this challenge.

Once completed, post a header and link back to your fic here. Posting is anytime December 6 through December 19. If we have a high number of sign ups, we'll be assigning posting dates for that time frame.

There will be a check-in email sent out over the weekend of November 13, which you will need to reply to and let us know if you will be finishing or not so we can grant you posting access.

We're Back!

After much waffling back and forth on what to do with this community we're back with another bandom 80's AU challenge. With the deletion of broadcastbandom we're expanding to include 80's TV shows as well.

Okay so. Once upon a time there were sign ups, followed by wonderful 80's movie AU fics being posted, followed by extensions followed by more wonderful fic being posted. But it's a new year so it's time to clean up a bit. 

If you signed up here to write an 80's movie AU and you know you are not going to ever finish that fic or you've had a "what the hell was I thinking and or on/seemed like a good idea at the time" thought in the back of your mind since that first deadline came and went now's the time to "officially" drop out. Let's give that prompt up to a good home.  If you're still planning on writing drop a comment and let me know.

Author’s notes: my all time favorite movie? goonies. i've wanted for a long time for there to be a recast of this and a remake of the movie into fic. no one ever wrote it for me... so when reel_band cropped up, i decided to bite the bullet and try my hand at it. thank you to lovelypoet and schuyler for the read throughs. the fratellis and various other premises belong to the original movie. i just borrowed them. the title is from the ataris song.
Warnings: if you have NEVER SEEN GOONIES, then you will probably not understand most of this fic. there are a lot of allusions to the movie and things that you will have to remember from the movie for the... well for it to be funny, i suppose.

Summary: “Bob!” Brendon calls, and Bob looks up from his seat on the couch, pulling one of his earbuds out. “Jon says Tom’s got a really high fever and he’s going to run him to the emergency room.” Bob knows what that means, and swears. They’ve got less than twenty minutes to find replacements for their lead guitarist and bassist, or they’re doomed to fuck up the biggest opportunity of their lives.
Notes:  The plot is loosely based on Somewhere In Time, though this should make sense even if you haven't seen the movie.  Also, I'm perfectly aware of the fact that none of this actualy happened.  The title comes from the Pink Floyd Song Time.
